Il 2023 inizia decisamente bene per i Maneskin, grazie all’uscita della loro nuova canzone, “Gossip”, in collab con il chitarrista Tom Morello dei Rage Against The Machine, che ha omaggiato il brano con un assolo iconico. Gossip anticipa l’uscita del loro prossimo album, “Rush!”, prevista per il 20 gennaio. Il brano, a differenza di quello precedente- The Loneliest- non parla di aspetti intimi e profondi, ma del mondo del flash e dei party, intuibile già dai primi minuti di ascolto. La voce graffiante di Damiano intona come primo verso: “Welcome to the city of lies / Where everything’s got a price”. Da qui la discesa nelle pieghe dello star system americano è veloce: i Maneskin lo descrivono come un circo dove ogni cosa che desideri può essere tua a patto di soddisfare le regole del gioco. Ricorrere alla chirurgia plastica, nascondere le verità scomode sotto il tappeto, fingere e bersi i gossip dentro un gin tonic. Queste le regole per avere successo, per vivere l’American Dream, come lo chiamano i Maneskin.
Il loro è un racconto vissuto e visto con i propri occhi, oltre ad essere una critica a un sistema monolitico, dal quale hanno deciso di allontanarsi. Per Gossip, la band ha collaborato con uno dei musicisti rock più noti di sempre, Tom Morello, che ha aggiunto il suo tocco, come spiega Victoria De Angelis: “La canzone nasce da un riff che Thomas ha scritto tempo fa e che abbiamo tenuto nel cassetto, ma su cui abbiamo continuato a lavorare. Poi il grande Tom Morello si è unito a noi e ha portato quel tocco in più”.
